About Stephen F. Anderson

Stephen Anderson is the author of  the book A BROKEN TREE: HOW DNA EXPOSED A FAMILY’S SECRETS. He has always been fascinated with people and their stories. Over the past 40+ years of studying families and doing oral interviews, he’s learned two important truths. The first truth is that everybody has a fascinating story to tell. He’s never found a person yet who didn’t have something interesting to share about their life. Secondly, he’s learned that every family has a collection of family secrets they keep buried away from public view. It is these hidden secrets that play a significant role in defining a family’s real story.
Stephen completed his undergraduate and post graduate work  at Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah. After college, he spent 26 years working for FamilySearch International, one of the biggest online family history companies in the world. During  his time with FamilySearch, Steve blogged and wrote hundreds of articles about families and their stories.
Asked what he would like to write next, Stephen said that he would like to write a book that takes a closer look at people who have gone through the experience of using a DNA test and have discovered that they are not who they thought they were. It is estimated that up to 10% of the American population were conceived in a way other than what they know. When these people discover the truth about their real identify, their life is turned completely upside down.  He would like to interview about 200 people who have gone through this experience and a hand full of experts to see how this new information effects them. He would also like to see what these people do to come to terms with their new identity.  With that information, Stephen would like to help people who have had a DNA-NPE experience understand what options are available to help them find peace with their new identity.
